A Weekend in Blue Ridge, Georgia

Blue Ridge & Aska Adventure Area, GA

Blue Ridge is the easiest Southern Appalachian weekend from Atlanta — a postcard downtown, a vintage scenic railway, and a lake-and-river basin (the Aska Adventure Area) full of cabins. Come for fall foliage and the Apple Festival weekends, then come back in summer to tube the Toccoa or paddle Lake Blue Ridge.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

A 26-mile round trip along the Toccoa River to the twin towns of McCaysville/Copperhill. Book the open-air car for fall color.

Aska Adventure Area

The cabin country south of downtown — Lake Blue Ridge, Fall Branch Falls, and miles of forest service roads.

Best weekends

Mid-October for peak foliage. Apple Festival weekend in early October books out months ahead.

Pair with

Day trip up to Ocoee for rafting, or down to Ellijay for cider and apple orchards.

  • · Drive the Aska Road loop for cabins, trailheads, and lake overlooks.
  • · Hike to Fall Branch Falls — short, family-friendly, year-round flow.
  • · Float Lake Blue Ridge from one of the marinas at the Aska end.

Places to Stay Near Blue Ridge

The Aska Adventure Area is the right call for first-timers — close enough to walk into downtown in 15 minutes by car, far enough to feel like the mountains. Look for cabins with a covered porch and a hot tub for fall and winter weekends.
