Land of waterfalls and white squirrels.

Brevard, North Carolina is the seat of Transylvania County — nicknamed the Land of Waterfalls, with more than 250 named waterfalls in the county. The town sits between Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Recreational Forest, and its walkable downtown is anchored by the Brevard Music Center (a nationally recognized summer classical festival since 1936), Rocky's Grill & Soda Shop, and a scattering of small breweries.

Brevard is also home to the resident white squirrels — a mutation traced to a 1949 carnival escape — celebrated every May at the White Squirrel Festival. Just outside town, DuPont State Forest hosts the waterfalls made famous by The Hunger Games filming (Hooker, Triple, High, and Bridal Veil Falls) with well-marked hiking and biking trails. In Pisgah, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, and Moore Cove Falls form the classic waterfall loop off US 276, and Looking Glass Rock and Black Balsam Knob deliver some of the best views in the Southeast.

Brevard is a top mountain biking destination — Pisgah and DuPont together host thousands of miles of singletrack — and a natural base for travelers heading up US 276 to the Blue Ridge Parkway or south to Caesars Head and Jones Gap in South Carolina.
