Chimney Rock, North Carolina is a tiny river-village that grew up along the Rocky Broad River at the base of Chimney Rock State Park — a 315-foot granite monolith that gives 75-mile views across Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge from its flag-topped summit. An elevator carved inside the mountain (opened 1949) takes visitors to the top, or a stair-and-boardwalk route climbs the same route on foot; the Hickory Nut Falls Trail leads to a 404-foot waterfall that stood in for the falls in The Last of the Mohicans (1992).

The gorge below the rock opens into Lake Lure, a 720-acre 1927 hydroelectric reservoir that was the primary filming location for Dirty Dancing (1987) — Kellerman's Resort scenes were shot at Boys Camp on the north shore, and the famous lake-lift lesson took place in the shallow inlet at the northeast end. Lake Lure's public beach, boat rentals, and the Flowering Bridge (a former highway bridge converted to a garden walk) anchor the town.

The area was hit hard by Hurricane Helene in September 2024; the village has been rebuilding, and Chimney Rock State Park reopened in phases through 2025. Travelers are encouraged to check current status before visiting and to support local businesses along the reopened Main Street.
