Lookout Mountain plateau country on Georgia's far northwest edge — home to Cloudland Canyon's twin waterfalls and rim-trail overlooks.
Cloudland (Rising Fawn), Georgia sits atop Lookout Mountain in Dade County at the far northwest corner of the state — the only Georgia county not connected to the rest of the state by highway without crossing into Alabama or Tennessee. The plateau's headline attraction is Cloudland Canyon State Park, one of Georgia's largest and most scenic parks, with 1,000-foot sandstone cliffs, two waterfalls (Cherokee Falls and Hemlock Falls) linked by the 600-step Waterfalls Trail, the West Rim Loop, and Sitton's Gulch Trail down into the canyon floor.
The area is close to some of the Southeast's best-known Lookout Mountain attractions — Rock City Gardens with its famous See Rock City barn roofs, Ruby Falls, Lula Lake Land Trust, and Little River Canyon in Alabama — while remaining a quiet, cabin-heavy overnight destination. The nearby Cloudland Canyon SP campground, cottages, and yurts are among the state's most-booked, and private cabin rentals fill the plateau along GA-189 and the state line.
Cloudland is roughly 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, making it a natural base for travelers combining Tennessee's riverfront attractions with quiet mountain evenings on the Georgia side.
