Pickens County town at the foot of Sharp Top — North Georgia Premium Outlets, Burnt Mountain, and the southern reach of the Blue Ridge.
Jasper, Georgia is the seat of Pickens County and calls itself the First Mountain City on U.S. 515 heading north from Atlanta. It sits at the southern reach of the Blue Ridge, framed by the twin peaks of Sharp Mountain and Burnt Mountain and the marble quarries that gave Pickens County its "Marble Capital of Georgia" nickname — the same Georgia marble used in the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol.
Downtown Jasper wraps a compact historic square with the Pickens County Courthouse, small cafes, and the Marble Festival grounds (first weekend in October). Just outside town, Burnt Mountain and the Bent Tree community deliver panoramic Blue Ridge overlooks; Tate House Mansion, built of pink Etowah marble, is one of the South's more unusual historic homes; and the Talking Rock Creek WMA and Carters Lake sit a short drive west.
Jasper is a natural stopover between Atlanta and Blue Ridge / Ellijay, and its cabin rentals and mountain-view homes fill up on fall foliage weekends and during North Georgia Premium Outlets shopping trips just to the south.
