Maggie Valley, North Carolina is a long, narrow Haywood County valley between Waynesville and the Blue Ridge Parkway/Cherokee, sitting at 3,000 feet and framed by 6,000-foot peaks. Named for Maggie Mae Setzer in 1904 when a post office was established, the valley grew into a mid-20th-century family-vacation destination and still leans that way, with the Wheels Through Time Museum (one of the country's best collections of rare American motorcycles), the Stompin' Ground clogging hall, and a strip of longtime motels and cabin rentals along Soco Road.

The valley is the closest full-service town to Cataloochee Ski Area — the southernmost ski resort in the eastern U.S. — and to the Cataloochee Valley entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, home to the reintroduced elk herd first released in 2001. Dawn and dusk elk viewing in the Cataloochee meadows draws hundreds of cars each fall during the September–October rut.

Maggie Valley pairs naturally with Waynesville, Cherokee, and the Blue Ridge Parkway climb over Soco Gap. It's also a common motorcycle base for the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, and Tail of the Dragon within a 90-minute ride.
